Berkhamsted Town Council Lib Dems support Key Local Initiatives and Law and Order in 2020/21 Budget

Berkhamsted Canal, Moor and StationBerkhamsted Town Council is now run by the Liberal Democrats with Green Party support.

In setting this years Town Council budget for 2020/21, the Lib Dem Group took the prudent decision to cover all usual costs and expenses, but then went on to support several key town projects and to improve security by part-funding a PCSO for two years.

The new initiatives they will be supporting from 1st April 2020 - the start of the new Financial Year - include:

  1. * a 100% increase in funding to the Swan Youth Project (up from £15,000 to £30,000);
    * a commitment to funding 50% of a PCSO's salary costs for two years;
  2. * a trial community bus service;
  3. * a number of initiatives and projects associated with our Climate Emergency Steering Group.

  • The Climate Emergency measures are designed to help reduce the impact of travel and energy usage in the Town, as well as improving natural habitats for wild life locally.

    The Town Council will
    also be working with the Canal and River Trust and organisations that care for our precious chalk stream, the river Bulbourne, to improve our much loved town waterways.

    However, the costs remain firmly under control and the cost this year to a Band D householder will be only £34.27 per annum, which is about 65p per Band D household per week.
